The Listeners

The Listeners are a group of experienced sensitives/psychics who use the intuitive faculty to encounter and understand any active presences or past occurrences at locations of alleged hauntings, which may be having a continuing impact on the present.

Our approach when investigating is to be gentle and respectful to anything we come across. We simply seek ‘to listen, to learn and to understand.’ Our title is taken from ‘The Listeners’ a poem by the English romantic poet Walter De La Mere. The poem speaks of brooding invisible presences, the past coexisting with the present and an apparent encounter between the people of the past and the traveller who knocks upon the door of the old house.

The Listeners group was started by Mark Emery and Joanne Williams. Having had experience of working with paranormal investigation groups both felt the need to be in a group that specifically focussed on using and developing the abilities of sensitives/psychics.

In the course of their regular investigations they have become more and more aware of how presences from the past seem to continue to have an impact on the present, and also how these presences often interact with sensitives/psychics, seemingly using them as a medium for communication. Definitions of what it is to be a psychic, a sensitive and a medium seem to vary, depending on what book you read or to whom you talk. We believe that this area of exploration should not be constrained by dogmatic ideas, so our group is marked by openness and a genuine desire to develop our abilities and to understand in fresh and immediate ways what we experience.

The Listeners are sometimes privileged to be able to help in bringing resolution to troublesome atmospheres and on occasions have assisted lingering presences to move on, should this be requested or felt to be appropriate. We are Sussex based and largely operate in the south of England.

As a working group we encourage a healthy interpretation of paranormal phenomena, looking for logical, natural explanations where they might exist. Our aim being to actively foster and develop the psychic facility, as well as seeking to temper it with rationality and commonsense.

For this reason we call ourselves ‘Psychic Investigators’ as the psychic capacity is the primary tool we endeavour to develop and utilise.
